Rebecca Romijn Shares Fitness Secrets with Health Magazine July/August 2012

Rebecca Romijn shows off her bikini body on the latest cover of Health magazine July/August 2012. Inside, the 39-year-old actress shares her tips and tricks for a happy, successful life. Take a peek at these highlights from her interview!

Rebecca Romijn flaunts her bikini body on the latest cover of Health Magazine July/August 2012. In the interview, the 39-year-old actress shares her tips and tricks for a happy, successful life. The gorgeous former model reveals her secrets to losing baby weight and staying fit and full of energy.
"I'm really not about deprivation. If I want a piece of pie, I mean, come on — you have to enjoy life! Especially if you have kids. I usually keep Sunday for whatever-you-want-to-eat day," she says.

Romijn also considers that working out is a great way to stay happy. "Especially cardio and yoga. It's a big part of my recipe for happiness," the actress admits.

And dancing as well.
"My mom used that as a tool to work herself out of a bad mood. I remember dancing around the house to 'We Are Family.' I'm introducing the girls to the Beatles and Stevie Wonder. We have a little disco ball in our living room; we love our dance parties," Rebecca says.

Dishing on her method of getting gorgeous in 5 minutes, the lovely actress explains that, "I just put on eye cream, a bit of moisturizing gel, and sunscreen. I like O-Gloss by Smashbox. It comes out clear, but it turns a shade of pink based on your skin. I use two mascaras. You know that Kiss Me stuff [now called Blinc]? It coats your lashes; I use it on the bottom, then MAC on top, and cover with Kiss Me to keep from smudging. That's my recipe for not looking like a raccoon!"

Rebecca Romijn Shares Fitness Secrets with Health Magazine July/August 2012

Rebecca Romijn' secret for working out harder? Music. "I really like listening to music when I'm hiking or exercising. I don't like hearing myself breathe. I'm like, 'Am I dying? I think I'm breathing too hard. This is bad. I'm sure this is bad. I should slow down.' [Laughs] I really don't do myself any favors," she says.

One of Rebecca's new fave recipes is "roasted vegetables with Parmesan and olive oil and lemon juice." "You can do it with asparagus, broccoli, or green beans. You sprinkle them with a little bit of olive oil and sliced garlic and salt and pepper, roast them in the oven so they get a little bit crispy, then take them out and put some Parmesan and lemon juice on them. So good," she explains.

But how does she deal with cravings?
"I use the apple trick. If you're sitting in front of the TV and just want something to munch on, I'll go for an apple. Refrigerated Fuji apples, nice, crisp, sweet. Man I love 'em. Eating apples is good on so many levels. There's fiber in the skin that's really good for you. It helps with digestion and helps you absorb all the nutrients of everything you've eaten that day. Apples are a really good thing," the actress told Health.

Romijn also reveals her go-to for losing the last 5–10 pounds saying that, "There's a cranberry flaxseed water recipe I drink. I'll make a liter of it and try to get through that in a day. (I also eat clean. I'm not into the 'not eating' thing.) You have to shake it up every single time, to make sure you get some of the flax, and it's like drinking a slightly sour water. I drink that for a week and it really helps flush fat."

The Hollywood beauty does three types of abs during all workouts, strength exercises, cardio sessions, kinesis machine (also certified for medical and rehab use) and Tae Bo. 'Glee' Star Lea Michele Talks Fitness Routine and Being Vegan with Shape Magazine

Lea Michele sits down for a chat with Shape and reveals some of her secrets on staying fit, her favorite workouts, and her tips on being a vegan. Check out what the actress had to share with the magazine!

'Glee' star Lea Michele sits down for a short interview with Shape magazine and shares some of her secrets on staying fit and reveals her tips on being a vegan. The 25-year-old actress admits she goes 'back and forth' between being a vegan and a vegetarian and that it is important to listen to your body.
"Well, I go back and forth between [being a vegan and not being a vegan]. I try lots of different things. I really feel that you need to kind of listen to your body and what your body is telling you to eat. So I was a vegan for about two years," she says.

Lea also gives some tips and tricks for readers who may want to become vegan.

"Well, everything with being vegan and vegetarian is a really big commitment. You have to do what you feel is best and what you believe in and what your body is telling you that it needs. I really think everyone should do what’s best for them, and what’s best for me may not be best for someone else. But like I said, you just have to do what makes you feel good," the actress told the magazine.

The young star, who lost about 10 pounds in 2009 due to the dance rehearsals for 'Glee', says that she is not that strict with her fitness routine.

"Working out for me is something I do when I feel like it. But it’s really about feeling good and taking care of my body rather than having to fit into any sort of model or anything like that. I try to eat well, and everything I do is really just to make me feel my best so that I can come to my job or my personal life and just feel really good."

When it comes to favorite workouts, Lea says that, "Oh gosh, no, I’m simple. I love hiking, going to the gym, doing some simple stuff. I love being outdoors, I love bike riding. Just stuff that’s fun!"

Recently, the actress and singer promoted a new project by Valspar Paint called 'Hands for Habitat,' where the handprints of various celebrities were being auctioned off to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
"It’s such an amazing cause! We have all these handprints, which you can find on the Valspar Facebook page. You can bid on them and all the donations and proceeds go to the Habitat for Humanity Disaster Response Program. It’s really such a great thing that so many people have donated their handprints and have gotten super creative, although mine are definitely the best and should be bid on the most (laughs)," Michele told Shape.

Malin Akerman Talks Diet and Fitness Routine with SHAPE June 2012

Malin Akerman flaunts her bikini body on Shape's June 2012 cover. In the accompanying interview, the 34-year-old actress dishes on her diet and fitness routine, and she also reveals her splurges. Check out these highlights from her cover story!

Despite her super-busy schedule, with five films in the works and a new ABC TV series coming out this fall, Malin Akerman still found time to strike a pose for the latest cover of Shape magazine, the June 2012 issue. The 34-year-old actress, who admits to stepping up her diet and fitness routine before the shoot, says that, "There isn't a woman alive who doesn't have problems with her body," says Malin, "including me!"

In fact, the actress confesses that when she found out she'd be shooting a Shape cover, she kind of panicked. "I hit the bikini-panic button. When I'm not working or prepping for a role, I tend to relax my diet and scale back my workouts, so I wasn't feeling as fit as I like to be for a photo shoot," Malin explains.

However, even though at first she was rather nervous about going bare, Malin had a plan. "I'm not going to lie: I was born with good genes [her mother was also a model]. But when I overindulge, I can get a paunch in my belly. And I've always wished I had more beef in my booty," Akerman told Shape.
"I made sure that my diet throughout the two weeks prior [to the covershoot] was very much lean meats, like a lot of fish, a lot of vegetables," the actress says.

But how does one of the sexiest women in the world feel these days? "Great. I have a lot more energy and focus – not to mention self-confidence. Now when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, that's what I see reflecting back," Malin confesses.

The gorgeous actress admits that she's not into drastic diets. "No, no, no! I've never been on a fad diet or tried one of those crazy cleanses. I think they just mess up your system. I believe in eating as nutritiously as I can all the time - not just before I'm putting on a swimsuit. My mother raised me on fresh - rather than processed - foods, and that's how I eat on a regular basis," Akerman told Shape.

On drinking alcohol, Malin says that, "I love to drink wine, but when I avoid it, I have so much more energy – and that’s what I need when I’m focusing on my body."

In her interview with Shape, the beautiful starlet also reveals she's not that virtuous when it comes to her diet and she still has her splurges.

"Oh, believe me, I have my splurges. I can’t live without chocolate. Though I barely consider it an indulgence because it’s good for you. I also love a thick steak and french fries. I try not to eat them more than once a week, but if they somehow land on the table in front of me, I won’t hold back. You’ve got to allow yourself the things you enjoy or you’ll just be miserable," she told the magazine.

Best Fitness Activities for Kids

Fitness activities for kids should make exercises so fun that children won't even notice they're working out. Motivate kids with fitness games and they'll be happy!

Excite four- to seven-year-olds by camouflaging fitness activities for kids into fun and attractive games. Physical fitness for kids helps them have active, positive lifestyles. Integrating knowledge and fitness games for kids will help convince them that exercise is important to their well-being, thus increasing the chance for fitness activities for kids to become a permanent part of their daily lives.

Health and Fitness for Kids

Once fitness games for kids are regularly incorporated into their experience, they are more likely to modify other health factors to complement their healthy lifestyles. There are plenty of fitness articles for kids recommending countless games and fitness programs for kids, stressing the fact that children lack aerobic endurance and tend to get bored. Therefore, fitness games for kids are the best options, because they are creative and stimulate their interest.

Best Fitness Activities for Kids

Fitness Facts for Kids

As you plan fitness games for kids, remember to incorporate health and real fitness components (cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility) throughout your session. To incorporate these fitness activities for kids successfully, you need to use them in fun ways. Having kids run a mile or perform push-ups and sit-ups may be good for their bodies, but could turn them off health and fitness exercises.

Camouflage Fitness Activities for Kids

Camouflaging physical activity for kids makes getting fit interesting, fun and more in keeping with a child’s natural way of moving. Tag games, walk/ run/jump activities and fitness circuits and relays provide the same benefits as more structured exercise, but are better tolerated by young kids. Take traditional fitness games for kids, give them new names and contemporary themes and you’ve got your classes planned.

Best Fitness Activities for Kids

Fitness Games for Kids: Monster Mash

Select three or four children to be the “monster mashers” and give each of them a beanbag. Everyone else is a monster. A monster is “mashed” whenever he is tagged on the shoe with a beanbag. The children may slide the beanbags across the floor or gently throw them. When mashed, a monster dances the “Transylvania Twist” (twisting the body five times) to the music.

Fitness Games for Kids: Builders and Bulldozers

Try this activity in the warm-up and fitness development sections. Divide children into two groups. Group one is made up of builders and group two of bulldozers. Place small cones, in a scattered formation, in the exercise area. Knock some of the cones over and leave the others standing. On your signal, the builders stand the cones up and the bulldozers knock them over. After about 30 seconds the groups switch roles.

Best Fitness Ball Exercises

Fitness fads come and go, but every now and then, a trend comes along that actually makes sense. Read one about the fitness ball and core strength workouts.

Probably the most favored tool for core strength workouts is the exercise ball (also known as stability ball, Swiss ball, or yoga ball). Fitness ball exercises are a great way to improve strength, cardio endurance, and balance. By tackling basic moves (like push-ups, squats, and planks) on an unstable surface, muscles get more bang for the buck. Stability ball exercises are also great for getting back into shape after an injury because they can reduce muscle and spinal strain during certain movements.

Squat & Reach

Get your blood flowing with a slow-and-steady squat for arms, abs and legs. Hold your stability ball with straight arms, squat down bringing the exercise ball all the way to the left side, just above the left foot. Hold this position for three slow breaths, then twist and return to standing position. Repeat on the other side.

Best Fitness Ball Exercises

Hamstring Curl

Lie on the floor with arms extended perpendicular to the torso and lower calves and heels resting on the balance ball. Engaging the glutes and abs, lift the hips up from the floor. Use the outstretched arms for stability, as this is definitely a wobbly position! Exhale and slowly bring the knees in towards the hips, so the feet are resting flat on top of the stability ball. Pause for a few seconds in this position and then inhale, straightening legs out again.

Roll Out

Among the exercise ball workouts, this multitasking move works the arms and the core! Kneel behind the yoga ball, with palms down on top. Slowly use the hands to push the yoga ball forward until the triceps are resting on top of the ball and the legs are almost all the way extended with the knees on the ground.

Remember: A tight core will keep the body moving straight ahead. Feeling pressure on the knees? Place a towel or yoga mat under them for a little extra TLC. Concentrate on maintaining the proper form for 10 reps straight.

Best Fitness Ball Exercises

V-Sit with Balance Ball

V is for victory – at least in the killer abs department. Lie face up on the ground with ankles resting on the top of the stability ball. With arms pointing towards the feet, roll the torso up so the body forms a V with the hips on the ground. Hold for five counts (long enough for a serious case of the abs-shakes) and slowly roll back down to the ground. Repeat this balance ball exercise for 6-10 reps.

These solutions to increase your metabolism and strip off those stubborn fat bags can definitely put you on the right track of embracing a healthy lifestyle. Have fun during your exercise session by noticing the positive results more quickly. Check out the following set of recommendations on how to improve your fitness rituals.

Right Posture

Ladies tend to combine reading a magazine with their workout session. However, researchers claim that if you neglect to embrace the right posture, you might deprive your organism from the right amount of oxygen. The also reveal that those who look down during their fitness session might sabotage the proper flow of the oxygen in their lungs and organism in general. Therefore, skip reading the magazine while on the treadmill. Instead, you can listen to your fave playlist or chit-chat with your workout buddy.

Skip Heavy Weights

It's not necessary to struggle your way through strength training to achieve ideal results. Instead, work with dumbbells that allow you to make at least 24 lifts in order to guarantee the best conditions for your muscle-toning.

Use similar weights to stay in top shape and enjoy your exercise class. Numerous researchers demonstrated that lighter weights can have the same sculpting impact on our figure as the heavy ones. Therefore, do your must have reps using weights that make you feel comfortable.

Work Multiple Muscle Groups

Exercises that allow you to work on multiple muscle groups can help you lose weight more easily. Whether you decided to choose jogging or a few dead lifts or squats, you'll definitely increase the chances for a more visible and efficient slimming process.

Switch things up a bit and make sure you limit yourself to workouts that combine various movements allowing you to tone your muscles more easily. Swimming, aerobic along with walking on the treadmill will allow you to secure the best conditions for a healthy and impressive weight loss.

Muscle Contraction

You can see guys flexing after their strength training session. This ritual might create a funny impression, however numerous trainers claim that muscle contraction is the perfect way to boost the muscle training process. Actually, while doing your fave weight lifting exercise, you're breaking down the muscles rather than building them. The actual increase in the muscles mass starts in the next 48 hours after your strength training. If you decide to embrace these popular methods to break down the fibers and contribute to the sculpting of your muscles, you'll benefit of a perfectly polished silhouette. Therefore, make sure you don't skip flexing next time you're at the gym.

Ramp Up The Pace

Preserve the versatility of your workout session by changing the intensity of your exercise. In order to ease your own task and stick to this principle, all you have to do is ramp up the pace of your workout during the commercials or every fourth song on your MP3 player. Keeping the same pace might slow down the calorie burning process, therefore, it is highly recommended to make a few interval training sessions.

Olympic Nutritionists Share Diet Tips with Fitness Magazine

Now it's time to eat just like a pro athlete! Fitness Magazine got the chance to talk to the experts who shared some useful diet tips in order to get you fitter and stronger. Check them out!

Fitness Magazine got the chance to sit down and talk to the experts about the most useful ten diet tips that can help you get stronger, faster, and fitter than ever before.

Well, same old story guys! Breakfast still remains the most important meal of the day. "One of the biggest mistakes athletes make is heading out for a run in the morning without eating anything first," says Dan Benardot, PhD, RD, director of the Laboratory for Elite Athlete Performance at Georgia State University in Atlanta, who works with Olympic distance runners and oversees the nutrition program for U.S. Figure Skating.

And another crucial thing that we tend to omit is water. "Drinking water while you work out is great, but if you start your race on empty, you're never going to finish as strong as you want. Athletes should be consuming .5 to 1 ounce of H2O per pound of body weight every day," says Amanda Carlson-Phillips, vice president of nutrition and research for Athletes' Performance in Phoenix, Arizona, who regularly consults with Olympic contenders and pros.

Olympic Nutritionists Share Diet Tips with Fitness Magazine

"The more color on your plate, the better," says Beth Duryea, head soigneur for the Specialized-lululemon women's cycling team. She reveals that "One of the best things you can do to better your performance is to stay healthy, which means that you need a good amount of antioxidants and superfoods in your diet." Besides, she encourages all of the riders to incorporate whole-grain carbs, lean proteins, and colorful fruits and veggies into their snacks and meals every day.

Planning ahead is another important step. This is what sports dietitian Alicia Kendig, athlete performance lab coordinator at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, says. Kendig suggests you do your weekly meal plan on Sundays. She recommends to prepare healthy snacks and meals that you can easily grab throughout the week.

Okay, so this one might be a big surprise for many women who have tried loads of diets throughout time, but experts advise us not to diet. "The biggest nutrition mistake I see female athletes make is reducing and/or limiting their caloric intake in an attempt to be lean," says Scott. "This causes reduced stores of carbohydrates in your body, which are essential for training and performing, and can then lead to muscle breakdown, as your body eventually starts to use protein as an alternative fuel source."

On carbs, Benardot says that when you have too many at once, our body cannot use it all and therefore it stores any excess as fat. "You need to focus on your nutrition every day, and then the night before is a good time to simply top off your fuel stores," Carlson-Phillips says.

On her diet, the beautiful model admits that, "I try not to think about foods that are too fattening or too sugary. I always think about why it's important to eat the best foods. By not obsessing over the bad, I think to stick with the good." Decker's typical menu includes 2% fat Greek yogurt mixed with blueberries for breakfast, egg-white sandwich on an English muffin with goat cheese and mustard, or soup and a salad for lunch, and lean meat or tuna with veggies for dinner.

When it comes to snacking, Brooklyn opts for a handful of almonds or cashews, hummus and pita, a granola bar, or raw veggies. She drinks several glasses of water and a few cups of coffee.

Brooklyn considers that when you do physical activities you enjoy, you see exercising as positive and therefore get more results. And one of her ways to bust boredom is to dance.

"Yesterday I returned from a trip to Australia and Munich, so I resorted to my secret, sure-fire method to get my body moving again. I blasted three Taylor Swift songs as loud as I could and started running in place and doing some stupid booty dancing. Sometimes I'll watch a music video of a great performer like Beyonce and try to follow her choreography. Yeah, maybe I look ridiculous, but dancing gets your energy up a lot better than running on a treadmill or pedaling a stationary bike," she told the magazine.

Another trick is to turn the workout into a sightseeing expedition. "I really love going places without a map," she says. "When I went running in Paris, I headed for a monument or a statue that I could see off in the distance. To get back where I started, I simply used the GPS on my phone."

On playing tennis with husband Andy Roddick, Brooklyn says that, "He tried to give me a lesson once, and I ended up hitting all of the tennis balls over the fence and smashing my racket because I was so frustrated. I told him, 'You don’t teach me how to play tennis, and I won’t teach you how to model in a bathing suit.' And so far, it’s worked. Being married to Andy has given me a new appreciation for my body. He’s taught me that it’s not how thin you are that matters. It’s how your body performs, how it endures wear and tear."

Decker confesses that she has some idols, independent and talented women whom she admires. "When I see a woman who's overcome obstacles, who's done something with her life, I want to say to her, 'Wow, you're cool. Your career is awesome, and I'd love to hang out with you.' It's a respect thing," Brooklyn says. Kristen Wiig, Erin Andrews, Marisa Miller, Charlize Theron, and Lana Del Rey are some of the women she would love to hang out with.

Speaking about Del Rey, Brooklyn says that, "She has such an individual singing style - a kind of smoky, old-school jazzy voice combined with a hip-hop vibe. It's music I've never really heard before."

On Charlize Theron, Decker told Women's Health that, "Well, duh. It's not just her breathtaking beauty that stuns me, it's her ability to act completely against type, to defy everyone's expectations, and to go for roles that she just finds interesting, not because an agent or manager tells her the parts will be good for her career."

Women’s Fitness: Facial Yoga Exercises

Incorporating facial exercises into your busy lifestyle is the best way to tone and tighten loose skin around the eyes, mouth and jaw. And it only takes minutes!

Face yoga is a series of exercises that promise to do for your face what yoga does for your body: relax and tone muscles. Mimicking facial expressions will sooth those tension-filled expressions we make every day without even realizing it. Whatever you want to call it - facial yoga or yoga based facial exercises for toning your muscles - just think of it as yoga for your face. Try the best exercises for your facial muscles.

Eyes and Mouth Exercise

For this facial yoga exercise, make a face as if you were to pronounce the letter O. While holding your O, try stretching the area below your nose, looking up, and hold for 10 seconds. Do 2 sets. It is easier if you don’t stop breathing in the middle of a pose. Try to avoid this by breathing as usual and relaxing as you shape your face.

Neutral Face Exercise

This facial yoga exercise is the easiest of all of the face yoga poses. Experts say all you have to do is "imagine the face of Buddha superimposed over your face like a Photoshop filter." Just close your eyes, visualize the point between your eyebrows, and make a very slight smile. This facial yoga exercise relaxes those lines on your face as well.

Cheek Resistance Exercise

One face yoga exercise that can tighten sagging skin is the fingertip lift. To perform this exercise, place your fingertips on the apples of your cheeks. Apply firm pressure as you smile wide. This creates resistance and can tighten your muscles over time. Ensure that your teeth are visible and hold your position for 10 seconds. Slowly let your mouth relax.

Jawline Sharpening Exercise

Stick your tongue as far out as possible, facing the tip of your tongue upward. From that pose, tilt your head back until a vertical line forms between your neck and your lower jaw, and hold for 10 seconds. Do 2 sets of this pose. Sticking your tongue out helps promote secretion of pancreatic gland hormones that is thought to have an anti-aging effect on your body.

Total Face Exercise

First, scrunch your face, closing your eyes and pursing your lips closed. Hold that position for five seconds. Next, open your eyes as wide as possible and stick your tongue out, trying to touch it to your chin. This facial yoga exercise stretches the facial muscles and may be beneficial in reducing wrinkles.
